Safety Unit Notebook Portfolio

  • Due Date: Sept. 14 (A); Sept. 15 (B & C)
  • Rubric: n/a
  • Details: Glue all Safety Unit papers (Safety Contract, Safety worksheet packet, poster first draft, etc.) into the "Lab Safety Unit" section

Optional Extra Credit Metric System Unit Portfolio

  • Due Date: Oct. 10 (A & B); Oct.. 11 (C)
  • Rubric: Extra credit points
  • Details: Include all the following papers in a stapled packet (staple it 3 times in the left margin of all the papers) and in the following order:
    • Title Page – Unit title, your name, date, period, and my name (Mr. Perrone)
    • Contents Page – Labels all pages in portfolio with page numbers (remember to number all pages after you put it all together)
    • Introduction Page – In 2-3 paragraphs introduce me to your portfolio: what makes it your own? How does it showcase you as a learner? What did you think about the Metric System Unit? Why is it the most important unit in science?

End of the Quarter Choice Assignment: Weather & Climate Unit Portfolio OR Weather & Climate Take-Home Assessment

  • Due Date: Jan. 24 (A, B, & C)

  • Details: Both assignments will count as the first major project grade for the third quarter; students may choose to do both projects with one counting as a project grade and the other counting as Extra Credit

Rock Cycle Poster

  • Details: In addition to the poster, students are expected to write an original narrative describing, in story-format, what events would take place as a rock travels through the entire rock cycle.

Fourth Quarter

Solar System Project

  • Details: In this three-part project, students research a topic of their choice (planet or Sun), create a 3-D model of that celestial object, and organize a class presentation.
